Bacchus Marsh will gain a new indoor pool as the state government announced $10 million in funding to go towards the Moorabool Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
Moorabool Shire mayor Tom Sullivan said the announcement was welcome news and brought the council a step closer to delivering a completed aquatic facility.
“There is widespread community support for this project and a high demand for year-round pool facilities in Bacchus Marsh, with 56 per cent of surveyed pool users having to travel outside the Shire to participate in swimming activities at indoor pools in other municipalities,” Mayor Sullivan said.
The council has called on the federal government to commit funding to the project.
“Council has committed $15 million in future years to fund this project and we are calling on the candidates for the federal election to match this funding,” Mayor Sullivan.
