Commuters on the Ballarat train line will need to allow extra time for travel as trains will have speed restrictions imposed from 12pm today due to the increasingly hot weather.
Although Ballarat is forecast to reach 33 degrees today, trains on the Ballarat line will be slowed from 160km/h to 90km/h or less as the mercury tips 36 degrees or more in Melton, Ararat and Maryborough.
V/Line have advised there will heat speed restrictions through the section of track between Rockbank and the Bank Box Loop, just past Bacchus Marsh, and ask commuters to allow extra travel time.
Some train services are expected be replaced by coaches for part or the entire journey, to help ensure V/Line can continue their usual timetable.
